Typically, this source of rental assistance will cover the difference between their full rent and about 30 percent of their household income. In New York City, close to 123,000 households use a form of the federally funded Housing Choice Vouchers, with nearly 99,000 using tenant-based vouchers, which residents can use to rent a home of their choice.
