One of the best ways to find your library marketing soulmates… the ones who will nod sympathetically when you talk about how hard it is to get engagement on your socialmedia posts or how your co-workers expect you to make a flyer for every single program is at a conference.
I have ranted and raved over the years about how to get nonprofit boards of directors to help win grants and increase fundraising. In my experience, people who volunteer for boards or are recruited to nonprofit boards are high achievers in their fields, community leaders, or people with lived experience related to the nonprofit’s mission.
We dream of a promotion at work, a seat at our organization’s leadership table, our own consulting business, open communication with funders, software that makes our lives easier, training that helps the newest batch of grant professionals, and so much more. And many of us have great ideas on how to make the grant world a better place.

For example, nonprofits can partner with businesses to support their events and programs in exchange for sponsorship opportunities and fundraising. As we’ve seen and noticed in the grant profession, relationships are critical to success. Don’t be afraid to ask people in your network for referrals.
