Located in Maryland, he has lived there his whole life before being elected mayor in 2009. The local government here strives to be accountable and accessible. Mayor Slay. Our Next Mayor.

Rather than adamantly saying "no," I came to realize that since advocates mostly lose out on such initiatives--except if the city or state requires a public vote--we should be focusing on mitigating the problems from such facilities and increasing the benefits. I and many activists were against public funding, but it happened anyway.

It doesn’t take long before thousands of Facebook users join these pages (Fieser, 2009). These pages, open to anyone with a Facebook account, include ‘friends’ not only from one’s home country or state, but from throughout the world. In the past there was nowhere for this kind of sentiment to go.

One of the strands from which the planning profession in the US was birthed was out of women-initiated "good government" and "good places" initiatives in a time when women still didn't have the right to vote. But overall in the US, such services haven't fared too well.
