The United States has one of the most extensive vehicle transportation networks in the world, totaling more than 4 million miles of interstate highways, city freeways and rural roads. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 42,915 motor vehicle–related fatalities in 2021, the largest number since 2005.
The State Department of Transportation, which probably should be called the Utah Department of Cars and Trucks, has a proposal to widen I-15 through Salt Lake City to Farmington in Davis County to 6 lanes in each direction--it's four lanes now.
